AbstractReflecting upon the title of this forum, I am inclined to restate its main title as "The Other Modernisms?" That is to say, a chief question we may be seen to be addressing is, as Mary Gluck puts it in her contribution: Is there a specifically East Central European form of modernism? Or, put differently, in what ways are these modernisms "other"? What is their relation to other (e.g., German-language) Central European modernisms, or West European modernisms, which have arguably received more attention? What do these articles suggest about modernism as such? |
